The mission of the CNL program is to cultivate the next generation of ethical global leaders in business, academia, government, and the non-profit sector. Through Carnegie Council's public programming, exclusive social gatherings, and special events featuring prominent speakers, CNL gives young professionals the chance to connect with like-minded individuals from diverse sectors and backgrounds and to learn from a wide variety of experts. Past programs have included private briefings at US Military Academy (West Point), Google, the United Nations, Blackrock, and the Pentagon. The group has also hosted dinners with senior representatives from the FBI, ACLU, and the tech sector—as well as with renowned authors.

The CNL program operates from September 1 to August 31 and offers membership categories tailored to suit all geographies. Applications are accepted all year on a rolling basis. After a brief review process, applicants will be notified of their acceptance status. Candidates are typically 25 to 45 years old and selected based on the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated interest/fluency in international affairs
  • Demonstrated academic and/or professional excellence
