Applications for the 2027-2028 Cohort are Open
We are currently accepting applications, with a deadline of April 24, 2026. We will be conducting an interview process afterwards. For any other questions on the timeline, please refer to the FAQs.
We strongly encourage you to give yourself enough time to complete the entire application. To get started, fill out the form below and include the following:
- CV/Resumé
- Two recommendation letters
- A short personal statement addressed to Brian Mateo and Kathleen Egan (500 words max) that addresses the following questions:
- Why does the Carnegie Ethics Fellows program interest you?
- Which of Carnegie Council’s core principles resonate with you? Which one would you like to learn more about?
- What experiences have you had with ethical challenges in your field, industry, or organization?
- What is an ethical issue in the field of international affairs you want to explore during the two-year Fellowship?
- How might this Fellowship help you in your personal and professional life?
Candidate Qualifications
- Career level with growing leadership responsibilities
- A drive for values-focused leadership in personal endeavors as well as at the international level
- A desire to develop personally and understand the connection to issues in international affairs
- The ability to work in multicultural, multisectoral, and/or multistakeholder teams
- The ability to collaborate effectively with others
- Ages 25-35 (exceptions are possible but limited)

Cheek-Milby Fellowship
The Cheek-Milby Fellowship is a special recognition awarded to an outstanding Carnegie Ethics Fellow who demonstrates exceptional commitment to developing the next generation of ethical leaders. This distinction supports Fellows advancing work with young leaders through education, mentorship, or their professional and/or educational field, complimenting the core education, training, and leadership development offered through the Carnegie Ethics Fellows program.

The Carnegie Ethics Fellow program is designed for mid-career professionals between the ages of 25-35 working in business, government, academia, and non-governmental organizations.
No, the Fellowship is a professional development program where participants come to Carnegie Council three weekends a year.
To apply for the program, you will need a CV, two letters of recommendation, and a short personal statement. To apply, use the form below.
Carnegie Council will provide support for travel (economy), accommodations, and on-site expenses for the modules.
Yes. The Carnegie Ethics Fellowship is open to participants outside of the United States. Due to on-site modules, participants will need to have the appropriate travel documents (passports, visas, etc.) to successfully participate.
No. Fellows are responsible for obtaining their own travel visas and paying all associated costs. Carnegie Council can assist in the visa application process by providing documentation confirming participation in the Fellowship but will not cover expenses associated with this process.
Carnegie Ethics Fellows are required to attend all six modules. Pending prior approval for extenuating circumstances, a Fellow can miss no more than one module. Failure to attend modules will result in termination of participation in the program. Please make sure to check on the set dates in advance before applying.

All materials, including reference letters, are due by April 24, 2026, alongside your application.
The Carnegie Ethics Fellowship is not construed to represent an employer/employee relationship between you and Carnegie Council. If selected, the opportunity will be terminated should you not fulfill the stated responsibilities, fail to disclose conflicts of interest, or fail to demonstrate high professional standards. You shall not receive any benefits from Carnegie Council, including pension, health, vacation pay, sick pay, or other fringe benefits.
