FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEJanuary 26, 2006

The Carnegie Council is pleased to announce the publication of the new book, Global Institutions and Responsibilities: Achieving Global Justice.

This volume combines original essays by political philosophers, legal and political theorists, and economists into a spirited debate about the practical dilemmas of globalization. Its distinguished contributors include political theorist Jean M. Cohen, economist Sanjay Reddy, international relations theorist Robert O. Keohane, legal theorists John Tasioulas and Jedediah Purdy, and philosophers Allen Buchanan and Kok-Chor Tan.

“The aim of this collection is to help close some gaps between theory and practice and between theorists and practitioners,” say editors Christian Barry and Thomas Pogge.

“These essays integrate rigorous thinking about the principles of global justice with concrete discussions of international organizations such as the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the World Bank, and rules governing international economic exchanges and the use of force. The contributing authors enrich moral theorizing by engaging it in real-world issues, while also providing solid moral grounds for needed reforms and present international rules and organizations.”

A book launch will be held at the Council's headquarters in New York City in early April.
