Joanna Macrae is director of European partnerships at GiveDirectly. Macrae previously was the coordinator of the Humanitarian Policy Group at the Overseas Development Institute in London where she spent seven years as co-editor of the Group's academic journal, Disasters.
Her research interests include official humanitarian policy; the interface between humanitarian, development, and foreign policy; and the role of aid in conflict management. She is author of Aiding Recovery? The Crisis of Aid in Chronic Political Emergencies (2001), and co-editor of War and Hunger: Rethinking International Responses to Complex Emergencies (1994).
