Illah R. Nourbakhsh

Illah R. Nourbakhsh is K&L Gates Professor of Ethics & Computational Technologies; director of the Community Robotics, Education, and Technology Empowerment (CREATE) lab; and associate director for robotics faculty at Carnegie Mellon University.

His research interests include: community-based robotics, with an emphasis on complete design, fielding, and evaluation cycles; formal educational evaluation; vision-based human-robot interaction; community robotic empowerment; autonomous, deliberate systems; and human-robot systems.

Additionally, Nourbakhsh is executive director of the Center for Shared Prosperity and chairman of the board of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Environmental Health Project. He is a Kavli Fellow at the National Academy of Sciences and a Hastings Center Fellow. He is also a trustee at the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation and Winchester Thurston School.

Nourbakhsh holds a Ph.D. in computer science from Stanford University.
