Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein is the United Nations high commissioner for human rights, a position he has served in since September, 2014.

A native of Jordan, Al Hussein was Jordan's permanent representative to the United Nations from 1996 to 2007 and again from 2010 to 2014. From 2007 to 2010, he served as Jordan's ambassador to the United States and non-resident ambassador to Mexico.

From 2002 to 2005, Al Hussein was president of the Assembly of State Parties of the International Criminal Court. He also served as a political affairs officer in UNPROFOR, in the former Yugoslavia, from 1994 to 1996.
