
Emily Shechtman is co-founder and director of South Brooklyn Sanctuary, where she leads efforts to empower New Yorkers to represent themselves in Immigration Court through Know-Your-Rights presentations, legal paperwork support, and pro bono referrals.
Previously, she was chief of staff at Envision Freedom Fund, which pays bond to free immigrants from ICE detention in the New York City area. Her work is grounded in a deep commitment to legal empowerment for those impacted by the intersection of immigration, criminal, and family court systems.
