Chan Heng Chee is a professor of political science at the National University of Singapore.
Previously, Chan served as ambassador of Singapore to the United States from 1996 to 2012. From 1989 to 1991, she was Singapore's permanent representative to the United Nations and she has also served as as the high commissioner to Canada and ambassador to Mexico.
In addition, Chan has served as the executive director of the Singapore International Foundation, director of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, and founding director of the Institute of Policy Studies. She was also a member of the international advisory board of the Council on Foreign Relations, a council member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, and a council member of the International Council of the Asia Society in New York.
