Irene Khan is UN Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Opinion and Expression. She has held this position since August 2020 and is the first woman to hold this role.
Khan was previously secretary general of Amnesty International from 2001 to 2009 and she headed the International Development Law Organization (IDLO) from 2012 to 2019.
