Daniel Franklin has been executive editor of The Economist since 2006 and editor of the The Economist's annual publication, "The World in…", which focuses on the year ahead, since 2003.

Franklin joined The Economist in 1983 and was the magazine's Europe editor from 1986 to 1992. He has also served as Britain editor and editorial director of the Economist Intelligence Unit in London, and Washington, DC bureau chief. From 2006 to 2010 Franklin was editor-in-chief of Economist.com and he has also served as business affairs editor.

Franklin is the author of Megachange: The World in 2050 and Megatech: Technology in 2050.
