Alex Salmond is the former first minister of Scotland and the leader of the Scottish National Party.

Previously, Salmond was a member of the Scottish Parliament. From 2007 to 2011, he represented the Gordon constituency and from 1999 to 2001, he represented Banff and Buchan. From 1987 to 2010, Salmond served as member of Parliament for Banff and Buchan in the UK House of Commons. Salmond began his career in government in 1978, working as assistant economist in the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland.

In addition, Salmond worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland for seven years in the 1980s, serving as assistant economist, oil economist, and bank economist. He was also a visiting professor of economics at Strathclyde University.
