Alec Ryrie is a professor in the Department of Theology and Religion at Durham University.

From 1999 to 2006, Ryrie taught in the Department of Modern History at Birmingham University. In 2015, he started a three-year Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship.

Ryrie is a co-editor of Journal of Ecclesiastical History and his books include Protestants: The Faith that Made the Modern World, Being Protestant in Reformation Britain, and The Age of Reformation: The Tudor and Stewart Realms, 1485-1603.
