In Germany, blessings for same-sex couples exacerbate tensions with Vatican

Public ceremonies at Catholic churches in Germany were held to bless same-sex couples, in defiance of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the Vatican that such blessings were "not legitimate." In this article for The Washington Post, Carnegie Council's Alexander Görlach notes that although the campaign is a move in the right direction, the church's broader stance on homosexuality is out of step with contemporary European culture.
