Whitley Kaufman is associate professor of philosophy at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a Ph.D. in philosophy from Georgetown University.
His research concentrates on the ethics and legality of the use of force, both in the domestic and international context. He has published articles on preventive war, the legal justification of self-defense, and the moral legitimacy of causing harm to civilians in war.
