Charles Taylor is former Board of Trustees Professor of Law and Philosophy at Northwestern University and professor emeritus of philosophy at McGill University.
His many publications include Multiculturalism and 'The Politics of Recognition' (1992), Sources of the Self: The Making of the Modern Identity (1989), and Hegel (1975). His current work focuses on topics in social and political theory, including multiculturalism, the political culture of modernity, and secularization.
In 2007 Taylor was awarded the Templeton Prize for Progress Toward Research or Discoveries About Spiritual Realities for his career-long emphasis on the importance of the 'spiritual dimension' in understanding human motivation and behavior.
