Ali Akbar Salehi is head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and former minister of foreign affairs of Iran.
Salehi became minister of foreign affairs in January, 2011. He was previously head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, deputy secretary-general of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, and, from 1997 to 2005, permanent representative of Iran to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Salehi had two stints as chancellor of Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, where he was also associate professor. In addition, Salehi was a member of the Academy of Sciences in Iran and the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Italy.
