C2G2 Changes Name to Carnegie Climate Governance Initiative (C2G)

Jun 10, 2019

The Carnegie Climate Geoengineering Governance Initiative (C2G2) has a new name: from now on, it will be known as the Carnegie Climate Governance Initiative (C2G).

We removed the word "geoengineering" as the term causes confusion and can dissuade important actors from taking part in necessary discussions. This has the effect of shutting doors instead of opening them.

Our mission, however, remains the same: to catalyze the governance of deliberate, large-scale interventions in the Earth's systems, such as carbon dioxide removal and solar radiation modification. We need to use terminology which encourages as broad a range of voices as possible to be heard in this timely and necessary process.

We will be changing our logo to reflect the change, but for practical purposes our email, web, and social media addresses will remain the same.

For a more in-depth explanation of our reasoning, please read this blog post by C2G Executive Director Janos Pasztor.
