Bio

Kristen Ghodsee, an assistant professor of gender and women's studies at Bowdoin College, has been studying Bulgarian culture and society since 1998. She began ethnographic research on the Pomaks in 2004, and will be returning to Bulgaria for fourteen months of fieldwork in the Rhodope region beginning in August 2005.

She is the author of The Red Riviera: Gender, Class and Tourism in Southeastern Europe (forthcoming). Her articles on Bulgaria have also appeared in Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society, Women’s Studies Quarterly, and the International Journal of Politics, Culture and Society.
