Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs is an independent, research-driven nonprofit that works to empower ethics by identifying and addressing the most critical ethical issues of today and tomorrow. The Council is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented program associate to join our team.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Program Associate will provide programmatic, logistical, and research support to the Office of the President. The successful candidate will be thoughtful, highly motivated, energetic, collaborative, and congenial, with well-developed communication and organizational skills. This position includes independent work on Impact Initiatives, assisting with preparing dockets and other materials for trustee meetings, episodic or long-term research projects, and administrative work in support of daily operations.

The position is based in New York with an expectation to work in the office three days per week.

Main responsibilities:

  • Provide advanced coordination for program activities that includes but is not limited to drafting and sending invitations, preparing meeting materials, assisting with events/conferences, and coordinating travel.
  • Provide support to the Finance department, including overseeing reimbursements, expense reports, invoices, and communications with outside consultants.
  • Maintain the contact database, including updating contact information and profiles, tracking relevant interactions, and sending materials to contacts.
  • Prepare briefing materials for the President, as assigned.
  • Participate in meetings with staff; take and maintain notes and circulate list of action items.
  • Undertake general office work, such as electronic filing, maintaining program records, preparing correspondence, responding to requests for information, etc.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in the humanities or social sciences, preferably in international relations, political science, philosophy, or related disciplines.
  • 3-4 years of experience coordinating projects or programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, including exceptional writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Detail-oriented candidate with outstanding organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and on a team, and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • A high degree of competency in the MS Office suite, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and the ability to learn new applications quickly.

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary Range: $55,000-$65,000 depending on experience.

Carnegie Council offers a benefit package that includes three weeks’ paid vacation per year plus additional sick and personal leave time; health, dental, and vision plans; and generous 401k contributions after one year of employment.

Covid-19 Guidelines:

All staff are expected to be fully vaccinated and show proof of vaccination on, or before the official start date. Failure to provide proof of vaccination will result in revocation of Carnegie Council’s offer of employment.
