A Fairer Globalization (Public Affairs Program Series, 2006-07)
Lecture Series
Joanne J. Myers

The integration and openness of the global economy raises questions of social justice. Can we imagine policies that will both unleash and harness global wealth and power to promote opportunity and freedom for all? This series gives voice to positive ideas for a fair and just globalization, focusing on specific choices available to governments at all levels as well as the corporate sector and concerned citizens.

The Fairer Globalization series explores alternative policies and governance structures that can bring about a more equitable globalization for all. It addresses the extent to which globalization is influencing democratic deliberation and political choice at the international, national and local levels.

  • Is globalization enhancing the scope of debate and public policy choice—say through exposure to new ideas and best practices—or is it undermining choice sets through the imposition of systemic pressures?
  • How are political processes changing in light of increasing globalization?
  • Does domestic politics become more or less responsive to voter concerns? And do alternative voices become more or less powerful in local political settings?
