Orville Schell

Orville Schell

Orville Schell is the director of the Asia Society Center on U.S.-China Relations.

Previously, he worked for the Ford Foundation in Indonesia, covered the war in Indochina as a journalist, and was a professor and dean at the University of California, Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism. He has served as a television commentator for several network news programs, has worked both as a correspondent and consultant for a number PBS "Frontline" documentaries, and been the correspondent for an Emmy award-winning program for "60 Minutes."

Schell is a contributor to many magazines, including The China Quarterly and The New Yorker, and he is the author of fourteen books, most recently Virtual Tibet. He has also contributed to numerous edited volumes.
