David Shinn

David Shinn is currently an adjunct professor in the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University.

During his 37 years at the Department of State, Shinn served as ambassador to Ethiopia (1996-99) and Burkina Faso (1987-90). Other State Department postings include desk officer for Somalia, Djibouti; State Department coordinator for Somalia during the U.S. intervention; director of East and Horn of African Affairs; and deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Sudan.
