Carnegie New Leaders Program
As a future leader, you know that ethical considerations play a vital role in shaping your understanding of current events. The Carnegie New Leaders (CNL) program offers a rare opportunity to meet others who feel the same.

CNL provides an exclusive platform for the next generation of leaders to explore the ethical dimensions of issues including human rights and the just use of force, environmental sustainability, and corporate social responsibility.

Through a series of informal and formal discussions, CNL participants join an esteemed community of business professionals, policy makers, social innovators, and scholars who are changing the way we conceive of ethics in the 21st century.

As a CNL, your benefits will include:

  • Participation in exclusive CNL events, 10-15 per year
  • Opportunity to shape CNL content, propose speakers and convene events
  • Chance to publish articles exploring CNL discussions on Carnegie Council's website
  • Candidacy for Carnegie Council Honorary Trusteeship
  • Acknowledgement of membership on Carnegie Council's website
  • Exceptional networking opportunities
  • Carnegie Council's quarterly Bulletin and monthly eNewsletter
  • Discounted subscription to Ethics & International Affairs Journal
  • Opportunity to upgrade CNL membership and receive Public Affairs Program Subscriber benefits.

CNL Programming

The CNL program is organized around the Council's three themes: Ethics, War, and Peace; Global Social Justice; and Religion in Politics.

During individual sessions, speakers investigate questions such as:

  • What challenges confront ethical leadership in a particular field, industry, or sector?
  • How can those challenges be better addressed?
  • What approaches have been successful or unsuccessful?
  • What skills are necessary to be an effective moral leader?

CNL hosts events ranging from formal panels, to intimate round-table discussions with leaders in international affairs, business, and academia, to social outings.

  • Age 40 and under
  • Demonstrated interest in international affairs
  • Demonstrated excellence in their field

To apply to join the CNL program, please email a copy of your résumé and a letter of interest to cnl@cceia.org. The letter should discuss your thoughts regarding the following questions:

  • What are the challenges of ethical leadership in your field or industry? How would you address these issues?
  • How do you think the CNL program will help you enhance your own leadership skills?
  • How do you see yourself leveraging these skills in your sector or organization?

The CNL program offers two membership options: Individual and CNL-Subscriber. The annual membership fee for the individual option is $200; prices vary throughout the year for the CNL-Subscriber option.
