Description
Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Sam Speedie entered into government service in the public security policy sphere, serving at the state and then federal level.
In this Carnegie New Leaders event commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11, Speedie will discuss the surge of interest in public service, and public-spiritedness that followed in the aftermath of 9/11. He will also reflect on the challenges posed by sociopolitical and economic trends that developed in the intervening years, as well as characteristics of the public sector, in bringing the talents of America's "best and brightest" to bear in meeting this nation's most vexing problems.
William Gouveia will moderate this event.
